NOT GUILTY
State v. A.P. (Juvenile) (1st case)
On October 30, 2018, a jury in County Court at Law No. 2 of Webb County, Texas presided over by Judge Victor Villarreal, found A.P., a juvenile, not guilty of smuggling of persons. The Border Patrol agents testified that A.P. was waiting for undocumented persons at a local business near the Rio Grande river. Agents testified that the undocumented persons got inside A.P.’s car while A.P. tried to get away. None of the state’s witnesses testified and the State didn’t present any other evidence that A.P. received any pecuniary benefits for his actions, an essential element of the crime alleged.
